Blood Covenant = God's Everything

Understanding the Power of a Blood Covenant

Most people today don’t really understand what a blood covenant is. So, let me give you a crash course before we dive in deeper.

You see, the closest thing we have today is a contract—but let’s be real—contracts are weak. They’re full of loopholes, and they can be canceled the moment someone feels like backing out.

But in Bible times, a blood covenant was the most serious, unbreakable agreement two people could make.

It said, “Everything I have is yours, and everything you have is mine.” From that moment forward, they lived as one—no exit clause, no backup plan, no prenup.

How Blood Covenants Were Sealed

To make it official, both people would shed blood, usually by cutting their hands or arms and pressing them together.

Aren’t you glad we don’t do that anymore? But this wasn’t just symbolic. It literally intertwined their lives. If anyone broke the covenant, it was punishable by death.

They would also exchange weapons to say, “My strength is now your strength.” And they’d exchange robes, declaring, “My identity is now your identity.” They would often seal the deal with a covenant meal. Sound familiar?

Jesus did this in Luke 22:20 (NLT), saying:

"This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you."

Jesus wasn’t starting a religion. He was making a blood covenant with you.

What Jesus Gave You

Jesus gave you everything—His righteousness, authority, inheritance, power, and Spirit. And in return, He asks for everything—your life, your will, your trust, your surrender. This isn’t a casual agreement.

It’s not about “asking Jesus into your heart” and then trying to be a good person. This is a blood covenant. It’s forever. It’s all in.

Salvation is a blood covenant between you and God. And here’s the best part—God has already fulfilled His side. The blood’s been shed. Everything that belongs to Jesus now belongs to you.

You Already Have What You Need

We spend so much time in church learning how to give everything to God. But did you know He already gave everything to you?

He gave you freedom from sin, healing for your body, heaven’s wisdom, miracle-working power, and endless treasure in Christ.

So why are you still waiting for healing? Why are you begging for provision? Why are you crying out for wisdom like you have to convince God to give it to you?

When you gave your life to Christ, everything He has became yours—right then, in that moment. You don’t have to convince God to do anything for you. He already made the commitment.

God Is Already Committed

Jesus said in John 14:14 (NLT):

"Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!"

That’s a covenant promise. You don’t have to beg. You don’t have to wonder if He’ll come through. He already decided. He made a blood covenant with you—an unbreakable agreement in His eyes.

As long as you access this covenant through Jesus Christ, everything He has is yours.

Jeremiah's Prophecy of a New Covenant

Let’s read what Jeremiah prophesied about this covenant in Jeremiah 31:31-34 (NLT):

"The day is coming,” says the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and Judah. This covenant will not be like the one I made with their ancestors… But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of Israel after those days,” says the Lord. “I will put my instructions deep within them, and I will write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people… And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins.”

This covenant wasn’t just for Israel. It’s for all of us. Jesus already fulfilled His part. So, how do we enter into this covenant?

Our Part of the Covenant: Faith in Jesus

Romans 3:21-22 (NLT) says:

"We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are."

Our part is simple—faith. When you believe Jesus is who He says He is, you step into covenant relationship with Him. And if you truly believe, you’ll follow Him wholeheartedly because He’s just that good.

If you haven’t made that decision yet, you can do it right now—wherever you are. You don’t have to be in a church building.

All you have to do is believe and confess, “Jesus, You are my Lord.” It’s a done deal. You’ve entered the covenant.

The Primary Benefit of Your Covenant

Now that you understand the power of a blood covenant, let’s talk about one of the greatest benefits—freedom from sin.

Romans 6:6-7 (NLT) tells us:

"We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin."

Sin has no power over you anymore. You don’t have to live bound by it. You’ve been set free. And yes, people might argue and call you “stuck up” for believing that. But I’m just believing what the Word says.

Living Free from Sin

Temptation will still come. But you have the power to overcome it. You’ve been given the Holy Spirit to help you. Romans 6:12-14 (NLT) says:

"Do not let sin control the way you live… Instead, give yourselves completely to God… Sin is no longer your master."

Grace isn’t an excuse to sin. Grace is the power not to sin. You’re no longer bound by the law but set free to live by the Spirit.

Living by the Spirit

Romans 7 and 8 explain that living by the Spirit is how you fully step into this new life. The law showed us our sin, but Jesus gave us His Spirit to empower us to live free.

Romans 8:1-2 (NLT) says:

"So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death."

That’s the truth. You are free. Sin has no hold on you. Don’t believe the lie that you have to struggle with sin every day. The Word of God says you’ve been set free. So live free.
