Have you ever had someone come to you for prayer and felt like, “God, I know You want to heal this person, and I believe You can, but I’m not sure I’m up to the task”? You believe in His power, but you’re not so sure about yourself. It’s like you’re the weak link in the chain.
I want to help you break that mindset. Because when you understand how you’re designed spirit, soul, and body, you’ll stop depending on yourself and start living from the power that’s already inside you.
Let’s look at 1 Thessalonians 5:23 (Amplified):
“May the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through… and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete and [found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
This verse tells us something critical: we are three-part beings. We have a body. We have a soul—our mind, will, and emotions. But we are a spirit.
Even people who don’t think they believe in anything are still operating in belief. You believe the chair you’re sitting in will hold your weight. You believe the air you breathe will keep coming. Belief is always functioning; it just depends on where it’s being directed.
Galatians 6:15 says it’s not about outward things like circumcision anymore, but about becoming a new creation in Christ. And 2 Corinthians 5:17 (Amplified) drives it home:
“If any person is [engrafted] in Christ, he is a new creation… the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!”
When you got born again, your spirit wasn’t just fixed—it was completely remade. It’s brand new. It’s holy. It’s filled with the very power that raised Jesus from the dead. You’ve got that inside you right now.
Let’s read Ephesians 1:18–20 (Amplified):
“[I pray] that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened… so that you will know… what is the immeasurable and unlimited and surpassing greatness of His power in and for us who believe… which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead.”
That same power is in you. Right now.
So what’s the hang-up? Why do we still feel powerless sometimes?
Because your body and your soul are still in play. Your body is like an eternal two-year-old. It just wants what it wants—sleep, snacks, comfort. Your soul is constantly influenced by both your flesh and your spirit. And whichever one your soul aligns with determines what plays out in your life.
Romans 12:1–2 (Amplified) urges us to renew our minds. To stop conforming to the world’s patterns and be transformed by the Word. Because our soul—the mind, will, and emotions is the valve. It controls whether the Spirit flows through or gets blocked by doubt and fear.
The Christian life isn’t about trying to get things from God. It’s about renewing our minds so we align with what He’s already placed in us.
I had Luke and Jason help me illustrate this during service. Luke was the spirit, Jason was the flesh, and I was the soul in the middle, deciding who to align with.
When I listened to the flesh, I got complaints, tiredness, hunger, and doubt. When I turned toward the spirit, I found power, truth, and strength.
Your soul chooses which one to believe. The flesh is loud and demanding, but it has no power unless you give it control. When your mind aligns with your spirit, your body has no choice but to follow. Healing becomes real. Power flows. Doubt disappears.
Fasting is a great way to quiet the flesh. At first, your body will scream. But after a while, it settles down. You’re training it that it’s not the boss.
When your mind gets fully aligned with your spirit, everything changes. You’re not begging God for more. You’re releasing what He’s already given you. And when you lay hands on someone, you’re not doing it from fear or doubt, you’re doing it from the Spirit.
You were made to believe. You just have to choose what to believe. And if you want to walk in the Spirit, you’ve got to renew your mind with the Word of God.
Don’t conform to the world. Don’t feed your flesh with junk that produces fear and doubt. Instead, keep turning that valve toward the Spirit. Knock the rust off. Let the peace, love, and power of God flow through you.
This is how we mature spiritually. This is how we walk in our calling. This is how we become effective. And this is how we get ready for what God wants to do next.
